Where should I look for openings, and how do I know a listing is current?

Who this helps: Anyone deciding where to spend search time, especially olim who don't yet know the Hebrew boards.

Last reviewed · 19 sources

The short answer

Use job boards to discover openings, but confirm and apply on the employer's own careers page whenever there is one. Choose boards by industry and language: the big Hebrew boards cover most of the market, English-language boards cover a narrower slice. Check the posting date, look for the same job on the employer's site, and keep one list of everything you apply to.

We opened each of these and confirmed it was running. Inclusion is not an endorsement, and services change, so check costs and terms on the site itself.

Choosing channels for your field and level

Our recommendation
  • Hebrew-speaking workplaces (most of the economy): the large Hebrew boards and employers' own pages. Search with Hebrew titles as well as English ones.
  • Tech and international companies: employers' careers pages, LinkedIn and startup boards. Referrals matter a lot here (see networking).
  • Public sector, health and academia: the institution's own jobs site, and the Civil Service Commission for ministries.
  • Senior roles: fewer are advertised. Recruiters and direct approaches to companies carry more weight.
  • Any field: follow 20–40 target employers directly rather than reading every board every day.

Is this listing still open, and is it genuine?

Our recommendation
  1. Check the date. LinkedIn shows how long ago a job was posted[8]; some boards show only the day and month[10]. A listing more than about a month old is worth double-checking.
  2. Find the same job on the employer's own careers page. If it is there, apply there. If it is not, it may be closed, or advertised only through a recruiter.
  3. If the same job appears on several sites with different details, trust the employer's own page.
  4. Check the company exists: a working website, an email address on the company's own domain, a real address.
Our recommendation

Never pay to be hired, and don't send an ID card, bank details or a card number before you have a signed offer from an employer you have verified.

Oleh Jobs reads listings from employers' own job boards and re-checks them. A job that disappears is marked "possibly closed" and then removed. You can also paste a job link you found elsewhere (sign-in needed) and we'll look for it on the employer's own page.

Keep one list of everything

Our recommendation

A single list stops you applying twice to the same role through different sites, and tells you when to follow up. Record for each job: company, title, where you found it, the link you applied through, the date, the CV version you sent, any contact person, and the next step with a date.

Your Oleh Jobs tracker keeps saved jobs, applications and interviews with notes and a timeline (sign-in needed).

Your next step

Choose two boards that suit your field and language, plus the careers pages of ten employers you would like to work for. Check them on a fixed day each week.
